In a joint research project with the Cappadocia University, the World Economic Forum has examined Türkiye’s medium and long-term sustainable tourism development challenges, strategies and policies. Taking Türkiye as a case study, the white paper titled “Driving Türkiye’s Travel and Tourism Development: The Challenges and Opportunities of Using Big Data for Sustainable Growth” explored the role of big data and digital technologies in addressing sustainability challenges in the travel and tourism industry.
Field studies in collaboration with the travel and tourism sector, extensive literature research, trend analyses, modeling and forecasts on tourism in the world and Turkey, conducted by the Social and Strategic Studies Research Center of Cappadocia University constituted the main inputs of the report. In the process of preparing the report, the opinions of experts from the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and the results of the "Destination Sustainability Survey" conducted across Turkey were used.
