The Cappadocia region, located within the boundaries of the regional directorate, is a significant area at national and international levels, possessing geologically and morphologically characteristic features, suitable for the cultivation of local products in terms of agricultural lands, and also having various natural and cultural assets. In this sense, the spatial structuring and development of the region must take place under special conditions, and plans that ensure a balance between conservation and utilization and guide orderly construction and development are needed. From this perspective, the region lacks any plan that concretely demonstrates the conservation-utilization balance and serves as an environmental planning scheme. This study aims to prepare an environmental planning scheme for the region at a scale of 1/25000.
Physical planning is a concept and method that aims to address a specific problem or a set of related problems. On the one hand, it attempts to understand/know how and why these problems develop within the context of structural relationships, while on the other hand, it examines how these problems can be solved with various intervention tools based on these findings. The planning process here begins with the concrete reality that currently exists. However, unless specific information and observations on the subject are organized in the mind or thought process, it appears as a complete mess. All relationships, with all their details and realities, need to be reconstructed by eliminating and reorganizing this database as a whole at an abstract/theoretical level.
Once the existing relationships are understood, an abstract model is attempted to explain how these relationships can be reshaped and directed within the context of specific value judgments—in other words, an approach that relies on estimation and represents positivism. This stage, in the broadest sense, is the beginning of the planning process. The entire process must be carried out within this framework, requiring expert opinions. In this context, it is envisioned that the expert team and research resources of Cappadocia University will facilitate and ensure the healthy progress of the environmental planning process at a scale of 1/25000 for the region.
